Commercial Robbery
6100 North Kings Highway (7-Eleven), 12/3/16, around 5:10 a.m. A man entered the convenience store, displayed a handgun, and demanded cash from an employee. The suspect took cash and cigarettes and fled on foot. The victim did not require medical attention. The suspect was described as black, about 30 to 35 years old, approximately 140 to 160 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and pants, a grey mask and gloves.

Robbery
North Kings Hwy./Fairhaven Ave. 11/23/16, 9:37 p.m. The victim was approached by two Hispanic men who threatened him with what is believed to be an airsoft gun, and took his baseball cap. He was not injured. The suspects were both wearing gray, hooded sweatshirts and black pants. They got in a gray Mitsubishi SUV and drove away.

Robbery
800 block of Fairhaven Avenue, between 11:30 p.m. 11/26/16 and 3:42 a.m. 11/27/16. Investigation determined a home was burglarized and electronics were reported missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

Robbery
2300 block of Huntington Avenue, 10/31/16 around 8:13 p.m. Investigation determined a 56-year-old man was walking when another man approached him and asked for money. The victim refused and the suspect assaulted him. Another man was nearby and started to call police, but the suspect struck him, took the phone and fled. The suspect was described as black, about 6 feet and wore a red jacket and blue jeans. The first victim declined medical attention. The other victim left the scene prior to police arrival and could not be located.

5900 block of Richmond Highway, 10/8/16, 10:33 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a robbery. Three men entered the establishment, displayed handguns, demanded cash and took property from the employees. The suspects were black, wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered. The victims did not require medical attention.

Commercial Robbery
2200 block of Huntington Avenue, 9/24/16 between 9:25 and 9:40 a.m. An investigation determined two men entered the business, one of them displayed a gun and demanded money from the clerk, a 30-year-old woman. The suspect allegedly pushed the victim, took an undisclosed amount of cash from a drawer then both suspects ran out of the store to a car waiting nearby then fled the area. Both suspects were described as black, with their faces covered. One suspect was about 5 feet 11 inches tall and 195 pounds, wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans; the other was about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 155 to 170 pounds. The vehicle was described as a silver, four-door. The victim did not require medical attention.

Third Suspect Arrested in Huntington Park Homicide of August 2015
On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, detectives from the Major Crimes Division, Homicide Section, obtained juvenile petitions, charging another individual with Second Degree Murder and Robbery in connection with the murder of Khalid Aboumalik on August 5, 2015. The arrestee, of Alexandria, who is 18 years old now, was 17 at the time of the murder. He was taken into custody at his home shortly before 3 p.m. and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center for initial processing and then transferred to the Adult Detention Center.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the Cause of Death was: Blunt Force Trauma to the head and Sharp Force Injuries to the Neck and Torso. The Manner of Death was Homicide.

No further arrests are expected in this case.

Robbery
Officers responded to a commercial robbery at the 7-Eleven located at 2405 Fairhaven Avenue, on Tuesday, June 7, at around 2:26 a.m. The initial investigation revealed that a man entered the business, approached an employee and displayed a knife. The suspect then fled with two cash drawers taken from the register. The victim was not injured. The suspect was described as black, approximately 25 to 35 years old, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, and with a heavier build. On Friday, June 10 around 7 a.m., detectives were in the area of the 2800 block of Fairhaven Avenue following up on the indecent exposure from June 9 at 7:20 a.m. They received information about a possible suspect and vehicle in the area. A lookout was broadcast with the description and an alert detective was able to stop the vehicle. The driver was identified as Elmer Alberto Medina Aguilar, 31, of Alexandria. He was subsequently arrested, transported to the detention center at the Mount Vernon District Police Station, and charged with indecent exposure in connection with the event from the previous day.

Officers responded for a report of an indecent exposure that took place around 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 9 in the 2800 block of Fairhaven Avenue, in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was walking along the sidewalk toward the bus stop on Fairhaven Avenue when a man pulled up in a vehicle alongside her. The victim glanced over and observed the man in the driver's seat exposing himself to her. The victim continued to walk to the bus stop and the man drove off. She immediately reported the alleged exposure to a parent, who then notified police. The suspect was not located. The suspect was described as dark-skinned, possibly black or Hispanic in his mid-20s. He had black hair with a mustache and beard. He was driving a gray, four-door sedan. This incident is under investigation.

Crisis Intervention At Local Pool
around 1:30 p.m., officers were called to the 5800 block of Cameron Run Terrace at Riverside Park Swimming Pool, in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County, for a report of a 20-year-old life-guard experiencing emotional distress. Officers attempted to communicate with the subject, using crisis intervention training techniques; however, the man continued to ignore the officer's attempted communication.

The pool was evacuated and officers continued to attempt to communicate with him but he instead jumped in the pool, swam, exited the pool, and began talking out loud. The man only spoke Polish and a Polish-speaking officer was summoned to the scene. This officer continued to attempt communication to no avail. The distressed man then jumped back into the pool and sank to the bottom at which point another lifeguard along with the assistance of the officers were able to bring the man out of the water. The man was unresponsive when he was taken out of the pool. Fire and Rescue personnel assisted the man and after regaining consciousness, he became combative. He was taken into custody for his own protection and transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in a non-life-threatening condition where he will be evaluated.

Robbery Detectives from the Major Crimes Division are investigating a commercial robbery that occurred in the 7-11 convenience store located at 6138 North Kings Highway, on April 29, 2016. At around 6:13 a.m., a man entered the store, brandished what appeared to be a handgun, and demanded money. The suspect drove off in a 4-door red vehicle. The suspect was described as black, approximately 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and of skinny build. He was wearing a dark colored jacket, jeans, and had a long dreadlock style haircut.

Robbery / Malicious Wounding
Officers responded to the location for an unknown situation and found Tyrone Augustus Broom. He claimed that he was assaulted by three males and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Around the same time, officers responded to the 2500 block of Belleview Ave for a report of a robbery. The victim explained that he withdrew a small amount of cash from an ATM at the 7-Eleven at Fairhaven Ave / Richmond Hwy. After doing so a man approached, robbed him, and a struggle ensued. The victim suffered a stab wound to his lower body and was able to flee to his nearby residence. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Following the investigation, detectives and officers determined that Broom was actually the suspect of the robbery report (outside the 7-Eleven). Tyrone Augustus Broom, 53, of Alexandria was arrested and charged with robbery and malicious wounding.

Attempted Commercial Robbery 6100 block of North Kings Hwy, 04/29/16, 6:13 a.m. A man entered a convenience store, approached an employee, and implied a weapon. He demanded money then fled empty handed. The suspect was described as black, approximately five feet eleven inches tall, with a slim build. He was wearing a dark-colored jacket.

Vehicle Trespass
2800 block of Fort Drive, 04/14/16, 10 p.m. The victim’s vehicle was entered and rummaged through overnight. Nothing was taken.

Malicious Wounding
6100 block of Richmond Highway, 04/05/16, 12:30 a.m. Officers responded to the Virginia Lodge for a report of a stabbing. A 49 year-old man reported he was approached by three black males and was stabbed. No property was taken. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The first suspect was described as black, 20 to 25 years old, and 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall. The second and third suspects were described as black, 20 to 25 years old, and 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall.

Burglary
2200 block of Huntington Ave, 04/01/16, 2:50 a.m. A resident reported a business had been broken into. The owner responded and advised currency was taken. The suspect was described as Hispanic, 20 to 35 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, 160 to 190 pounds, and had black hair.

Homicide
Around 8:18 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, police were called to the 6100 block of North King’s Highway, for a report of a shot person. Upon arrival, police found Santos Rafael Zelaya, 64, inside a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Zelaya was medevac’d by the police helicopter to a local hospital, where he died. The exact manner and cause of death will be determined the Office of the Medical Examiner.

Police are looking for four suspects, all black males between 16 to 25 and possibly driving a dark colored older sedan. Police are investigating the possibility that this was not a random act and at this time, do not believe there is a threat to the public safety.

Assault / Strangulation / Abduction
2300 block of Fairview Terrace. 2/27/16, 7 a.m. Police responded for the report of an assault and abduction. An investigation determined the suspect and a 33-year old woman, who were known to each other, were arguing. The suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and would not allow her to leave. Prior to police making entry into the home, the victim was able to exit, and the man surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. Donald Santiago Reyes, 34 of Annandale was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with strangulation, assault and abduction.

ATM Fraud
A man withdrew cash from the SunTrust Bank ATM, located at 5922 Richmond Highway on Saturday, November 21, at around 4:15 p.m. The ATM card he used was believed to be counterfeit as the original card was never out of the victim's possession. The suspect left the area with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was described as a dark skinned white or Hispanic male and was clean shaven. He wore a dark jacket, a striped shirt and a baseball-style cap. ATM Fraud Device
An off-duty police officer called when he noticed a fraud device (skimmer) on an ATM in the Huntington area on Friday, November 13. The officer had inserted his card at Citi Bank ATM at the 7-Eleven, 5834 E North Kings Highway, around 11 a.m. when he noticed that the card slot fell off and he saw internal electronic components. After examining the machine, and the cash dispenser, he noticed a small hole and saw that there were batteries, a camera and a data storage device on the machine. The card slot and cash dispenser had been taped on.

Police are asking customers to recall whether or not they may have used this machine recently as they don't know exactly how long the skimmer was in place. Skimmers are growing phenomena and have been seen across Fairfax County and the region in recent years. Additional tips include: Always check bank statements and look for discrepancies. Look closely at ATMs when making financial transactions. Skimming devices may be affixed loosely with tape; contact bank personnel and police immediately.

Narcotics Violatiom/ Assault
5991 North Kings Hwy at Mount Eagle Park. 11/11/15, 6:45 p.m. Two officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in the park. The odor of burning marijuana could be detected, coming from inside the car. The officers asked the two juvenile occupants; one male, one female, to exit the car. They did so and then became combative with the officers. The juveniles were taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Intake facility where they were charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana and obstruction of justice. Any injuries were minor and treated at the scene.

Road Rage
Shortly before 11 a.m., one of two vehicles, allegedly involved in a road rage incident, ended up striking the Travelers Motel at 5916 Richmond Hwy. Minor injuries reported. Elmer King, 50, of Alexandria, was charged with aggressive driving.

Update: Assrest in Homicide
After months of investigation, detectives placed charges against a 17-year-old male in connection to the murder of Khalid Aboumalik on August 5, 2015. The juvenile was already incarcerated in Fairfax County on a charge of robbery (of the victim). He was charged with murder on Wednesday, October 28.

The suspect is from the Huntington area of Fairfax County and police believe that he and the victim were acquainted with each other. Because he is a juvenile, his name was not publicly released. The teen is the second suspect that has been charged in connection with the homicide. Detectives are continuing to investigate and additional charges or arrests may be forthcoming.

Tires Vandalized
Fairfax County Crime Solvers is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the person(s) responsible for vandalizing more than 25 vehicles that were parked in the Huntington area. Between 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, and 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, the tires on more than 25 vehicles were slashed. These vehicles were parked in the 5800 block of Cameron Run Terrace and one vehicle was parked in the 2000 block of Huntington Avenue. Damage is estimated to be in the thousands.

6100 block of North Kings Highway, 09/03/15 at about 8:42 a.m. Two men entered a store, displayed a handgun and demanded money from an employee. The suspects took cash and property and fled. The victim did not require medical attention. The suspects were described as black males in their 20s.

Bicycles Stolen
Bicycles were stolen from the parking garage of The Shelby, 6200 N. Kings Highway, in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County. These thefts occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Arlington Terrace/Liberty Drive, 06/18/15, 2:58 p.m. The victim was walking and was approached by a man. The suspect pushed the victim, took property and fled. The suspect was described as black, about 18 years of age, between 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing dark shorts and a T-shirt.

Man Shot in Restaurant Parking Lot
Detectives are investigating the shooting of a man in the parking lot of Fast Eddies at 6220 Richmond Highway at around 1:50 a.m. Friday, May 15. Police responded to a report of an altercation involving around 50 people in the parking lot as the restaurant was closing. Upon arrival, police discovered that a man had been shot; he was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in critical condition. The man is 37 years old and from Woodbridge. He has since been upgraded to non life-threatening condition but remains in the hospital. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. UPDATE: Two Charged in March Homicide
Detectives charged Gregory Brown, 23, of Washington DC and Niziah Williams, of Clinton, Maryland with the murder of Santos Zelaya that took place March 26, 2015. Both men were charged on Friday, May 15 and are being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The medical examiner determined the victim's cause of death to be gunshot wound. Detectives are still actively investigating this case and there may be additional arrests pending further investigation.

Mount Vernon Police District - Around 8:18 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, police were called to the 6100 block of North King's Highway, for a report of a shot person. Upon arrival, police found Santos Rafael Zelaya, 64, inside a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Zelaya was medevac’d by the police helicopter to a local hospital, where he died. The exact manner and cause of death will be determined the Office of the Medical Examiner. Police are looking for four suspects, all black males between 16 to 25 and possibly driving a dark colored older sedan. Police are investigating the possibility that this was not a random act and at this time, do not believe there is a threat to the public safety.
